Last Heidelberg Castle
Illumination on 7th September 2013
On 7th
September 2013, around 22.15 hours, this year’s last Heidelberg Castle
Illumination will take place. As always it will start with Bengal fires
lighting up the Castle as if it would be burning. This is done in remembrance
of the big fires in 1689 and 1693 caused by marauding French soldiers of Sun
King", Louis XIV who burned down the city of Heidelberg and the Castle.
After the Bengal fires are almost burnt down the actual fireworks start which fascinates visitors and residents alike. The best views you will get from the banks of the Neckar River, on the south side from Neckarstaden and on the north side from Ziegelhäuser- or Neuenheimer Landstraße.
